RE : Montreal Metro
Dear Madams and Sirs,
My name is Andrei Golovkine. I am involved in different types of public related projects.
I would like to present to you a very simple and inexpensive design concept which, in my
opinion and experience, will benefit the public who are using the Montreal Metro.
It is especially useful for people who are not familiar with the Montreal Metro such as tourists,
new comers, and individuals with poor eye vision.
The Metro map shows every station assigned to a specific coloured line. However, while inside
the train or waiting on the platform, one cannot easily figure out which line the particular station
belongs to. All station’s names on the station wall are with a black and white design style and
anyone who is new to the Metro system has to go through the whole map in order to find the
station, using the name only.
I am proposing to implement a simple and very affordable way to “assign” stations to hte proper
line colour by using coloured stickers or paint.
In this letter I am presenting just a design concept of an “ordinary station”, intersection station,
and a terminal station. Of course, the design may be modified by professionals.
I used to live in Montreal for several years before moving to British Columbia, and I base my
ideas on my personal experience and the people I’ve communicated with.
I presented this idea a long time ago when I lived in Montreal but without success. I assume that
I did not speak to the representative responsible for such a proposal.
